Migori – The fraternity of Rongo University is mourning the loss of one of its first year students who died just four months after joining the university.
The university's dean of students, Bernard Asugo, announced the death of Nicholas Kipkorir through an internal memo addressed to students on December 17, 2024.
When did Nicholas Kipkorir die?
Asugo noted that Kipkorir passed away on Sunday, December 15, at the Nakuru Regional General Hospital.
“We regret to announce the death of Nicholas Kipkorir on Sunday, 15/12/2024, at the Nakuru Regional General Hospital during emergency treatment,” part of the memo reads.
He also explained that the 23-year-old deceased was a first-year student enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Science) program.
He joined the institute on August 27, 2024.
“The late Nicholas was born on the 27th of January 2001 to Samuel Rutoh Langat and Gladys Chebet of Sanchangwan Village, Molo Division in Nakuru County. He studied at Sachangwan High School (2019-2023) where he passed the Certificate of Secondary Education examination of Kenya in 2023,” he wrote.
Rongo University is mourning a first year student
The student leader expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, asking God to comfort them in their lives.
“On behalf of all the students, I would like to offer our condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased following this sudden tragedy. We ask God to give them strength and comfort so that they can overcome these challenges,” he said.
To remember our departed colleague, the students have planned to hold a candlelight vigil for the deceased on Wednesday, December 18, at 12 pm.
The event will be held in the atrium area of the university.
