Speaking to Citizen TV, he said he had invested all his retirement savings to buy the land without knowing that it was part of a disputed development project.

“I did not know that these plots were part of a development project when I bought them. I invested all my savings, KSh 900 million, for retirement, but now they are all gone. After one year, we are witnessing the demolition,” he said with great pain.

The real estate company in charge of the demolition claims that many of the residents failed to meet the payment terms stipulated in the original agreement.

“The owner of the plots said he was selling each plot for three million. Now these people who are being demolished refused to pay that amount in installments,” the former officer explained.

MCA The selectman, Joy Mwangi, criticized the move, pointing out the inadequacy of the notice given to residents.

“These houses that are being demolished have not been there for long and this land belongs to the Nairobi City Council,” he said.
