Nairobi – The Nomiya Church has defended the President's donations William Ruto to religious institutions, and asking other churches to reconsider their position of rejecting such offers.
Speaking during the service, Archbishop Michael Odhiambo Obego, together with his assistant David Odhiambo Abaki, explained the spiritual importance of giving by faith.
He emphasized that sacrifices, regardless of their source, represent a person's faith and commitment to God.
“Donations and alms are a clear way to please God. Rejecting them is not only unnecessary, but also against the scriptures,” Archbishop Obego explained.

These statements have been made following the controversial decision of the Catholic Church to refuse cash donations from politicians, including President Ruto.
The Catholic Church expressed concern about the source of the funds, stressing that integrity and transparency should guide financial donations to religious institutions.
Why is the Nomiya Church supporting Ruto?
Leaders of the Nomiya Church, however, took a different stance, expressing their firm support for the head of state and his administration.
“As a church, we fully support the president. We also call on all Kenyans to support him for national development,” said Abaki.
Archbishop Obego emphasized that sacrifice is a biblical practice rooted in Christian teachings.
He warned against politicizing acts of faith, noting that questioning the source of donations diminishes their spiritual meaning.
“We cannot promote the politicization of the act of giving to God. It is biblical, and pleasing to God,” added the religious leader.
Why the PEFA Church will accept donations from politicians
Likewise, the Pentecostal Church Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) announced that it will not comply with the directive issued by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) regarding donations from politicians.
The leadership of PEFA emphasized that they will continue to accept all donations and donations, saying they have no way to determine if the donations are from corrupt activities.
Speaking on behalf of the church, the PEFA preacher explained that the funds will be used for meaningful projects and that the church will not return any donations already received.
