Kiambu – The family of Erastus Nduati Muigai, who was being buried when thugs attacked the former vice president Rigathi Gachaguathey have finally spoken.
Muigai's funeral attracted many leaders among them, Gachagua, who was seen calmly reading the letter until hell broke loose.
According to the video footage, chaos broke out in Limuru when former MP Peter Mwathi was addressing the mourners.
Rioters pulled down the tent of celebrities and started throwing chairs and throwing stones at the cars of the former vice president and other members of parliament.
The family of the deceased had to quickly remove the body from the scene as the violence escalated and the mourners fled the scene.
Did Erasto's family know the officials at his burial?
During a press conference, the deceased's father, Muigai King'ori, revealed that before his son's death, no leader visited his home.
King'ori explained that the locals will testify that he has never been seen collaborating with any politician before the funeral.
He denied allegations that he was part of an elaborate plan that saw the rival second-in-command attacked.
“No one can stand in Limuru and claim that they saw me cooperating with any politician. So they did not involve me, and even before my son faced that problem, no honorable member of parliament ever set foot in my house. Therefore, I do not cooperate with any honorable leaders, nor did we conspire together,” he said.
What a loss Erasto's family suffered
The grief-stricken family said that their biggest loss of their son during the funeral was the broken seats.
While they were employed, the family explained that they were faced with the heavy burden of buying new chairs until the local MP John Kiragu Chege stepped in.
“When it came time for the funeral, the only challenge we have is chairs, the honorable member has come forward to help, he stood with me and offered chairs, I personally handed them over to the chairperson,” he added.
