What Mutahi Kahiga said about the SHA plan

National Deputy Council of Governors (CoG) Mutahi Kahiga told the Senate Committee on Public Accounts that governors had no choice in signing an agreement with SHA to lease medical equipment for universal health insurance.

Kahiga told the committee that so far 34 county governments have signed the agreement, although they do not know which company will be getting the equipment or how it was purchased.

However, speaking in Kilifi on Thursday, December 5, the president dismissed claims of secrecy in the procurement of equipment sent to hospitals under the SHIF programme.

Ruto responds to allegations of corruption in SHA

The head of state revealed that there are seven suppliers of the equipment, contrary to reports of one mysterious supplier.

“There was a process for the purchase of any equipment, the one that I see people talking about in the media, was done between the county and the Ministry of Health. No county has to get equipment from any supplier. There is no one supplier – I think there are seven or more suppliers – and there is no responsibility for any county,” Ruto said.

President Ruto criticized the governors claiming they were forced to sign a lease agreement with SHA.

“Anyone who says the national government forced them to sign any treaty, they are crooks and liars. Nobody forced them to sign any treaty, that is the truth. Nobody was forced. You must be stupid to be forced to sign something wrong, and you actually signed it and you are going to announce that I was forced,” he added.
