What happened at the Butere hotel?

The young man said that he sat next to a woman with her two-year-old son at a local hotel. He befriended the little boy and even fed him with his mother's permission, as he loves children.

According to him, the woman did not look like she was from the Luhya land but that did not bother him.

“I entered a hotel in Butere and sat next to a woman with a two-year-old child. From her appearance, she was a daughter of the mountain. I love children. It didn't take me long to befriend a young Mwas, a handsome young man. I offered to feed him, and within minutes few, he had eaten a lot of food,” he explained.

The walker noted that other tables had men who he thought were mechanics and boda boda drivers from all over.

He said the men thought that he was the father of a two-year-old child and that the woman was his wife and they started insulting them.

“Looking at my face and appearance, the people at the next table thought I was also from the slopes. The woman was my wife, and the boy was my son,” he said.

He said the people spoke in the local language, criticizing him for facilitating his wife's laziness by eating at the hotel instead of cooking at home.

“I heard them discussing with the Luhyas how we people of the slopes are very funny; instead of buying food and taking it home for my wife to cook, I encourage my wife to be lazy by taking her to a hotel,” he noted.

Surprised by the conversation that was going on, he kept quiet and listened to their gossip until he finished eating. Then, using the Luhya language, he asked the waiter to give him a bill and a drink of water.

The man from Kakamega answered the waiter

“Men can have a bad mouth. I was surprised and kept quiet because I wanted to hear more of their conversation. When I finished eating I called the waiter using Luhya. I asked him to give me the bill and also bring us water now that my wife and I are full,” he said.

Shocked by the situation, the people kept quiet and started to leave one by one, feeling ashamed.

In addition, he noted that the waiter was very embarrassed and had trouble bringing him the bill but later apologized for their bad behavior.

“The rest of the group remained silent. They left one by one without washing their hands, and the waiter had to follow them to pay their bills, heads bowed in shame.

The waiter himself was afraid to bring the bill because, like others, he was the one who said the child was malnourished because he had eaten at the hotel,” The walker explained.

He also told TUKO.co.ke that he did not tell the lady what happened because he did not want her to feel uncomfortable.

“I didn't tell the lady because I didn't want her to feel bad. Also the waiter had to apologize,” he said.
