The Mizani Africa 2024 Awards highlighted the faith of Kenyans in their leaders. Their research revealed that only 14 MPs out of 290 were deemed worthy of recognition as trusted senior leaders.
In a sample of 12,000 respondents, 74% recorded an average approval rating below 50%.
Who are the most trusted leaders in Kenya?
According to Mizani's research, the top ranking MPs include Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, followed by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, and Embakasi East MP Grandfather Owino in fourth place.
According to the survey, the top secretaries include Mary Muthoni of Public Health and Professional Standards, who ranked first, followed by Abubakar Hassan of Investment Promotion.
In third place was James Muhati, the secretary general of the State Department of Economic Planning, while Raymond Omollo, the Deputy Minister of Internal Security, was in fourth place.
Tourism Minister Rebecca Miano ranked first among Cabinet secretaries, while Tharaka governor Nithi Muthomi Njuki led the list of governors.
Senator James Murango was named the best senator, while Njeri Maina of Kirinyaga county was listed as the most trusted women representative in Kenya.
Why are Kenyan leaders not trusted?
About 71% said political leaders are no longer consulted before making major decisions that affect their lives, and when they do, they fail to implement recommendations made during public participation.
Instability and unpredictability were cited as the main reasons by 67% of respondents, while 56.7% cited corruption.
