Senator from Nairobi Edwin Sifuna has revealed that the new Minister of Mineral Economy and Blue Economy Hassan Joho is expected to face the Senate for threatening Kenyans.

How did Joho threaten Kenyans?

Speaking on Tuesday, December 3, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the DEVKI Steel Processing Project in Manga, Taita Taveta County, Joho criticized Kenyans who regularly attack the government of Kenya First on social networks.

He added that the government will take action against those who regularly criticize its development agenda.

The minister also said that the country cannot continue through social media, saying critics of the government are not patriotic.

Joho also strongly criticized those predicting the failure of Raila Odinga in his quest for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission.

“How can you lack patriotism if Kenyans start saying that even one of you who has the chance to lead the continent must fall? We will come for you, my friend,” Joho said angrily.

What did Sifuna say about Joho's remarks?

Speaking on Radio Citizen, the ODM secretary general said Joho will be summoned by the Senate to explain why he is threatening Kenyans.

According to Sifuna, as a Minister, Joho has a responsibility to ensure that his utterances are measured and he must be held accountable for his utterances.

“He will have to explain. We take seriously what the Cabinet secretary says. He is no longer the governor of Mombasa; he should speak as a minister,” Sifuna said.

Sifuna noted that Joho has luck that the Senate is going on recess this week but he insisted that the senators will not ignore his remarks.

“We will call him in the Senate and ask him what he meant by saying that he will come to Kenyans,” Sifuna said.

Why did Kenyans criticize Joho?

Joho was heavily criticized by some Kenyans due to his harsh remarks about critics of the government online.

The remarks of the Minister of Mines were received badly, while others vowed to confront him. Others called on netizens to share details of Joho's businesses to encourage a public boycott.
