What did Gachagua's allies say about the government?

Speaking on Wednesday, December 4, at the offices of the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in Nyeri, when they escorted Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa who was called for questioning, they claimed to be followed by people believed to be police officers.

Led by Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba, they said they live in fear of being kidnapped due to their sincere support for the former deputy president.

These allegations come after the alleged abduction of former Member of Parliament Peter Mwathi on Thursday, November 28, following the violence that occurred at a funeral in Limuru, where Gachagua attended.

“We are getting more and more worried. The way the police interfere in political and even religious processes is very scary. We sleep in fear, we drive in fear. We don't even go to church anymore because we are afraid we might be arrested on the way. It's time to speak because if we don't, things are not going well,” Mamuchomba said.

Murang'a Senator Joe Nyutu supported Wamuchomba's remarks, expressing his concern about the questioning of Senator Thang'wa and DCI on the violence at Limuru's funeral, despite being among the victims of the incident.

“Senator Karungo was a victim, but now he is being turned into a criminal and called to explain why he was attacked when the attackers are clearly known,” Nyutu said.

What did Mwathi say about the alleged kidnapping?

In a separate incident on Monday, December 2, Mwathi recounted his experience at the hands of his captors.

Mwathi said the violence at the funeral started while he was giving his speech, saying that unknown men shook the tent where Gachagua was staying, causing the people inside to run for their lives.
