Junelle Bromfield, fiancee to sprinting sensation and Olympic champion Noah Lyles, recently revealed a humorous yet telling reason she would have struggled to attend school in the United States.
During a candid moment in a training video, Bromfield, who grew up in Jamaica and now resides in the U.S. her fiancee, shared her thoughts on the differences between the two countries.
Following Letsile Tebogo being named the 2024 World Athlete of the Year, Noah Lyles has a first social reaction.
“These planes keep on distracting me. I could never go to school here,” Bromfield remarked, referencing the constant noise during their Las Vegas training camp.
Lyles, ever supportive, responded lightheartedly, “You don’t have to.”
The conversation then took a nostalgic turn as Bromfield reflected on her upbringing and the facilities available for athletes in Jamaica.
She noted that while U.S. schools often boast specialized facilities for various sports, Jamaican schools typically focus on a few multipurpose spaces.
“In Jamaica, we didn’t have all of these. Like basketball here, baseball there, and everything. We just had a track, a cricket field, and a football field,” she explained.
Lyles, finding humor in the simplicity, quipped, “Sounds like y’all had a lot then.” Bromfield quickly clarified, “The soccer field and the cricket field is usually the same field.”
Lyles, drawing parallels, noted that in the U.S., “Track and football usually share the stadium, actually.”
Bromfield interjected, “The thing is, it’s not a stadium though,” underscoring the difference in scale and infrastructure between the two countries.

Currently, the power couple is deep into preparations for the 2025 season. After a two-week camp in Las Vegas, they will head to Clermont, Florida, Lyles’ designated training base, for more rigorous training.
