IG Kanja Breaks His Silence About The Chaos That Made Him Choose To Run At A Funeral In Limuru

Former vice president Rigathi Gachagua he had decorated the funeral of his friend Erastus Nduati aka Mwene Limuru, when suspected thugs disrupted the event and left several people injured.

What did IG Kanja say about the violence witnessed in Limuru?

In a statement by the National Police Service, Kanja explained that the unrest started when the former Member of Parliament for Limuru, Peter Mwathi was addressing the mourners at the Bibirioni Boys' High School, the burial site.

He added that the bandits disrupted the funeral by throwing things and chairs at the mourners, forcing them to disperse safely.

Kanja highlighted the seriousness of the incident, noting that properties of unknown value were destroyed during the unrest.

“As a result, property of an unknown number and value was destroyed but so far we have received a complaint from only one person,” he said.

Addressing the alleged kidnapping of Mwathi, Kanja confirmed that the National Police Service did not arrest him, as he was not a person of interest in the case.

This has raised questions about the whereabouts of Mwathi who according to Kiambu senator Karungo Thang'wa was seen being taken away by men in a Subaru car.

Kanja added that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Limuru has already launched an investigation into the incident to arrest those involved.

“Officers are already on the ground recording statements from family members of the deceased.”

He also asked Kenyans who have information about the suspects who caused the unrest in Limuru to report to the nearest police station.

Was Gachagua's security removed?

Earlier, Gachagua criticized the government of Kenya First by removing his security, saying it left him vulnerable to attack at Limuru's funeral.

Gachagua complained that the government removed the last elements of his security following his removal from office.

He said, although he chose not to challenge the government's decision, it did not make him happy.

He noted that any Kenyan who has served at his level of government is usually given security even after leaving office.

The former vice president suggested that the government's decision seemed designed to leave him vulnerable to attack.
