What will happen next for Kenya after the failure of AFCON?
Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, former Harambee Stars midfielder Humphrey Mieno gave an overview of Kenyan football after failing to reach AFCON 2024.
“Failure to qualify was a real reflection of where our football is. Our preparation for these games seems unprofessional.”
He also highlighted the poor preparation before the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
“We want to host the CHAN next year, right? All the Kenya Premier League teams are in Nairobi and the only stadium available is Dandora, all other stadiums are closed. So we want to see the local players play, where are we going to see them play?”
“How long do we say we are rehabilitating them? Do we look like people who want to play in the tournament, or are we just talking, and our actions are different? We are not giving local players the tools and equipment to get better before the CHAN.”
Kenyans will be watching the 2025 AFCON from home and will need to speed up CHAN preparations or risk losing hosting rights.
