Kenyan Newspapers: Court Orders Ruto's Government to Confirm Cancellation of Contracts and Payments

1. Daily Nation

According to the daily newspaper, the High Court has ordered the government to present evidence regarding the cancellation of two billion shilling contracts with the Adani Group company, which the President William Ruto he ordered following the accusation of corruption of the officials of the Indian union by the US authorities.

While in front of Judge Bahati Mwamuye, the plaintiffs through lawyers Kalonzo Musyoka and Kibe Mungai, argued that there is no proof that the contracts were canceled as announced by the President during the state of the nation address in parliament.

“We would consider that statement to be strange until there is evidence to support the same,” said Mr Musyoka, adding that the plaintiffs will continue to prosecute the case even after the government submits evidence to dismiss it.

“Respondents (governments) in their responses to the application and the amended application, will submit evidence on the cancellation, withdrawal, annulment or annulment of the agreement of the agreement objected to by the Head of the Conditions,” the judge ordered.

In addition, the judge issued an order to prevent the government from entering into agreements for the rehabilitation and development of JKIA with any other party, pending the decision of the petition submitted by Tony Gachoka and others.

“A protective order is issued to restrain the respondents, jointly and severally, from entering into, approving, or continuing any contractual agreement relating to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with the 1st and 2nd Respondents (Adani Group) or related or related entities, or any party or entity,” ordered the judge.

The court ordered the case to be mentioned on January 29 for instructions.

This is the second court order to block the program after another judge issued a similar order in September in a petition filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC).
