AUC Contest: 7 Important Countries Raila Has Visited To Seek Support

Raila has visited seven countries as part of his campaign for the position of chairman of the African Union Commission.

Which country has Raila visited?

According to Pauline Njoroge, a senior member of Raila's campaign team, the former prime minister is on a seven-day visit to West Africa, presenting his agenda and vision as a candidate for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission to seven regional presidents.

“The 7 days have been busy and fruitful for Mr. Raila Odinga as he traveled around West Africa, campaigning for the Chairmanship of the African Union Commission. During this period he has expressed his vision for this continent in various talks with leaders and Heads of Government . of States and Governments, and has received their ideas, opinions and expectations for an effective and united African commission,” said the statement.

Raila's campaigns began on Tuesday, November 21, in Ghana, where President Nana Akufo-Addo welcomed him.

On the second day of his campaign, Raila traveled to Togo, where he met with President Faure Gnassingbé.

On the third day, Raila visited Côte d'Ivoire, where he hosted President Alassane Ouattara.

“In Senegal, he collaborated with President Diomaye Faye. In Gabon he was received by Vice President Muhammed BS Jallow. In Benin he was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs Olushegun Abjadi Bakari,” Njoroge's statement read more.

Raila Odinga is set to conclude his West African campaign on Wednesday, November 27, with a rally in the country Nigeria and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Does Mauritius support Raila's AUC bid?

Raila's ambition to become the chairman of the African Union Commission has gained momentum as Mauritius has released its candidate.

The new Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, decided to withdraw his country's candidate and endorse Raila during a telephone conversation with the President William Ruto.

The decision marks a change in strategy for Mauritius, which previously endorsed a separate candidate backed by former Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

Ramgoolam's rise to power following a closely contested election has brought new priorities to Mauritius' foreign policy, with a clear focus on accommodating Raila's ambitions for the AUC.
