Nairobi – A 22-year-old woman is recovering at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after sustaining serious injuries after falling from the fourth floor of Jumeirah Heights on November 18.
The victim, identified as Shannie Atieno, who was recently employed as a domestic worker in Kiambu, claims she was subjected to constant abuse and threats from her boss.
How did Atieno's employer torture him?
Narrating the situations he experienced, Atieno claimed that his employer used to beat him frequently using kitchen utensils and other household items, a situation that left him with physical and mental injuries.
“Since I started working in that house, I have never known peace. I am always beaten with kitchen utensils. Recently, my employer hit me on the head with a cooking spoon, causing a big wound that needed stitches. I am locked in the house, unable to seek help , and I am constantly threatened to be killed. He tells me that he can kill me and bury me without anyone knowing and that he will not be prosecuted by anyone.” Atieno told Citizen Digital.
Medical reports from the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) corroborate Atieno's claims, showing that he has been receiving treatment several times for serious injuries.
Atieno's family wants justice to be done and has asked the government to investigate the circumstances surrounding what happened to him, rejecting allegations that he may have fallen on purpose.
“We want the government to investigate what happened because I don't believe that my sister would have been sad enough to throw herself from the fourth floor,” said one of the family members.
It is reported that the woman suffered serious injuries to her back, broken legs, and other serious injuries, a situation that further strengthened concerns about the abuse she experienced and the events that led to her fall.
