Elias Njeru: The Nakuru preacher who was wanted for attacking his girlfriend surrenders to the police

Nakuru – The main suspect in the alleged attempted murder of businessman Florence Wanjiku Gichohi has surrendered to the police.

The National Police Service has confirmed that Elias Mutugi Njeru, the pastor of the Jesus Compassion Ministry Church, surrendered at the Nakuru Police Station early on Monday, November 25.

Mutugi was accompanied by his lawyer from Gakuhi Chege and Associates Advocates.

Police officers re-arrested him and detained him at Nakuru Police Station, pending transfer to Menengai Police Station.

“Today, November 25, 2024, Elias Mutugi Njeru, the suspect in the case of attempted murder of Florence Wanjiku Gichohi reported at Menengai Police Station, surrendered at Nakuru Police Station with his lawyer from Gakuhi Chege and Associates Advocates,” the police said.

Why did Elias Mutugi allegedly attack Florence Wanjiku?

His surrender follows a manhunt launched after Mutugi allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Wanjiku, 18 times.

The attack allegedly took place at their home in Rongai, Nakuru.

While at Optimum hospital, where he is receiving treatment, Wanjiku explained the circumstances that allegedly led to the attack.

He claimed that the incident happened after their conversation about business and personal matters at the entertainment venue.

Wanjiku also explained their troubled relationship, saying he tried several times to break the relationship without success; the pastor allegedly refused to accept abandonment.

The police investigation into the case continues while Mutugi pending formal charges.

After the attack, many Kenyans, including the governor of Kirinyaga Anne Waiguru and actress Catherine Kamau, have come out in support of the call for justice for Wanjiku, amid growing concern about cases of killing women.
