Moses Kuria Defends Catholics for Criticizing the Government, Rejecting Ruto's Money: “They Are All Right”

The clergy who make up the Kenya Catholic Bishops' Conference (KCCB) held a press conference on November 14, where they took the opportunity one by one to show the alleged mismanagement of the president and his officials.

Why Moses Kuria defended the Catholic bishops

They showed defects in every ministry and government department and showed the challenges they claim exist.

Their criticism caused them to be attacked by high-ranking officials in the government as well as other supporters of the administration.

A few days later, the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi rejected the millions of money that the President William Ruto he gave to a church in Soweto.

Responding to the events, Kuria, who is the Chief Adviser at the Council of Economic Advisers at the State House, Nairobi, appeared to contradict his boss.

Kuria said that there were fundamental arguments in the issues raised by the priests of the Catholic Church.

“My two rules as a Catholic who has gone through the Catechism process from Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Altar Child to Confirmation (like Francis) and the late Michael Cardinal Otunga wa Kibabi; Rule One – The Catholic Church is always right; Rule Two – If the Church Catholicism is wrong, refer to Principle One,” he said.

Why did the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi reject Ruto's millions?

On Sunday, November 17, the president attended a service at the Catholic Church in Soweto there Embakasi East, where he promised to provide the believers with money.

Ruto pledged KSh 300,000 for the purchase of uniforms for the Papal Missionary Children's Group (PMC); he also promised KSh 500,000 for the choir and KSh 5 million for the construction of a house for the local priest.

According to Bishop Philip Anyolo, the church should reject donations from politicians that could jeopardize its independence.

Furthermore, the Archbishop of Nairobi said political leaders should strive to address the core issues raised by the KCCB, including ending corruption and addressing unfulfilled promises.

Anyolo noted that in accordance with the Public Fundraising Bill 2024 under section 10(2), people intending to raise funds must apply for permission.

The State also said it will return the contribution of KSh 200,000 from the Governor Johnson.
