Chidimma Adetshina, representative of Nigeria in the 73rd Miss Universe pageant, she has made history by being the runner-up in the international pageant.
The grand final was held on Sunday at the CDMX Arena in Mexico City, where Adetshina emerged as one of the top contenders.
The last moment witnessed a fierce competition between Nigeria's Adetshina and Denmark's Victoria Kjaer Theilvig. Finally, Theilvig was crowned Miss Universe, succeeding Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, Miss Universe 2023.
Adetshina, a 23-year-old law student and advocate for women's empowerment, expressed her happiness and gratitude after her remarkable achievement.

“I am very happy. I have no words to describe what I feel right now, but I am very proud, and I have made history! he said in a video aired by the Miss Universe Nigeria organization on X (formerly Twitter).
Reflecting on her journey, Adetshina shared an emotional message for women, saying: “As a woman who has faced adversity, I feel like I have a powerful story. I am not standing here like Chidimma Adetshina. I stand here as a sign of hope, a light of faith, as one who has endured with grace. I believe that I have fought not only for myself but for Africa.”
Before the final, Adetschina used Instagram share his challenges and triumphs. He recounted the difficulties he endured, including security issues and criticism of his participation.
Despite the setbacks, he credited his dreams and the unwavering support of Nigerians for continuing with him.
“Many wonder why I didn't stop. Many asked, 'Why don't we leave it at that for now? Your life may be in danger.' Others questioned, 'Why does he not give up? Does he long for that bond?' I sat back, haunted by so many unanswered questions as life moved faster than I could handle. But you know what? My dreams have set me straight,” he wrote.
He thanked Nigerians for their love and support, adding, “With two hands, you carried me on wheels made of pure love and intention. I still don't fully understand why, but the most important thing is that you gave me a second chance in life.”
Born and raised in Cape Town, Adetschina previously competed in the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant.
However, she faced severe online harassment and bullying for her participation due to her Nigerian heritage.
Despite meeting all the requirements of the competition, social media attacks forced him to withdraw, citing concerns for his safety and the well-being of his family.
