Kidero, who ran for the governorship of Homa Bay in the 2022 General Election, has been appointed as the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Trade Corporation (KNTC).
How long is Kidero's appointment?
The appointment, announced through the Government Gazette Notice no. 14795, will take effect from Friday, November 15, 2024, and will place Kidero at the helm of KNTC for a term of three years.
This step comes as part of the efforts of Ruto to create a new leadership structure within his government.
Kidero's appointment also comes with the cancellation of the previous appointment of Hussein Tene Debasso as KNTC Chairman.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the Government Corporations Act, as read with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya. and the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, appointed Evans Odhiambo Kidero (Dr.) to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Business Corporation, temporarily. of three (3) years, starting on November 15, 2024. What is the role of the KNTC in the governance structure of Kenya
The Kenya National Trade Corporation (KNTC) is a government agency under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry.
It was established to serve as a procurement agency for the government while also supporting public sector institutions with sourcing and supply management services.
Along with procurement, the organization provides services such as warehousing, transportation, logistics and general distribution, ensuring that the needs of the government and the private sector are met efficiently.
KNTC plays an important role in strengthening national trade and supply chain activities across Kenya.
Why did Kidero attack the opposition?
In a separate incident, the former county chief blamed the opposition for not carrying out its duties properly.
Kidero stressed that Kenyans can be saved from pressure by equalizing taxes on various products.
However, he maintained that the tax on fuel and petroleum products has been there and was reduced to 8% during the crisis COVID-19.
