General Secretary of the Union of Trade Unions (COTU) Francis Atwoli He has asked Kenyans to show patience and give the administration of President William Ruto time to implement his policies.
In a heartfelt request, Atwoli stressed the importance of giving the government a chance to put things right and provide essential services to the people.
Why Ruto he should be given time
The veteran union leader noted that the government of Kenya First still trying to implement some of their main policies.
“As we continue to put things right, we need the support of Kenyans. Every government, before it is formed, should have a plan to implement its manifesto, that is the manifesto of Kenya First. It should be given time to implement. This government has only existed for two years,” he said.
Atwoli, who represents workers on the board of the Community Health Authority (SHA), called for unity and support from Kenyans as the government works to establish the Community Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
He explained that the SHA, which manages SHIF, strives to ensure that every Kenyan gets the health services they need.
“Kenyans should give the authorities time to put things in order in an appropriate way to provide essential services to Kenyans. I represent the workers on the board, and the Community Health Authority (SHA) is in charge of the Community Health Insurance Fund (SHIF),” Atwoli explained.
Atwoli's Message to the Catholic Bishops
In his speech, Atwoli acknowledged the concerns expressed by religious leaders, especially the Bishops of the Kenya Catholic Bishops' Conference (KCCB), regarding the provision of health services.
He asked them to show support instead of criticism as the government strives to improve health systems in the country.
“I have heard our bishops complaining about this, and they are the ones who run the faith hospitals. They should be supporting, they should not behave like they did when the current constitution was put in place. They should lead the government to ensure that the Community Health Authority is fully implemented and serves Kenyans,” Atwoli said.
Atwoli's appeal to Ruto
On Sunday, November 10, the General Secretary of the Confederation of Trade Unions (COTU) called for constitutional changes.
Atwoli asked President William Ruto to lead a review of the constitution due to the increase in court cases against government programmes.
According to Atwoli, if the constitution is not changed, the president may fail to fulfill his promises to Kenyans.
