“I am Kelvin Kiptum's father, and I am here with his mother. What we want to tell Kenyans is a simple request. The situation we are in would be better understood if we spoke about it instead of keeping silent, because we tried to reach people online, but it was blocked. However, we wonder if we are suffering; wouldn't it be better if we just said it?” he asked cryptically.

The old man explained, to begin with, that they do not have a toilet in their house, and they find it difficult when they have guests.

What are the challenges faced by Kiptum parents?

First, they have no place to store their grain.

He complained that the corn they planted was about to be harvested and he wondered where they would store it.

“First, when our son died, we never thought we would encounter such difficulties. So far, we are struggling. We have no toilet, and every time someone comes to visit us, we wonder how they will cope. Second, our corn is ripe in the field, but we don't know where to store it at harvest time. Finally, drinking water is a constant challenge. We have to pay for a tractor to bring water, and this has become a huge burden. We humbly ask the friends of my late son to come and see what we are going through, because these challenges have increased,” he explained.

Kiptum's mother said her son would be stunned if he woke up from the grave and found his parents suffering.

He said:

“To be honest, we have gone through many challenges. Until now, when I am in the kitchen when it rains, the water seeps through. I have been crying a lot, but if my son, World Champion Kiptum, was there and saw this kitchen, he would be stunned and wonder if it really belonged to his parents or someone else. We are very hurt. You know, Kiptum was our only child, on whom we depended. He served us.”
