Ugandan MP Says He Doesn't Even Want To Wash His Hands After Greeting Raila: “I'm Happy”

Addis Ababa – Ugandan Member of Parliament, Katabaazi Francis Katongole caused a stir after he sincerely approved the request of former prime minister Raila Odinga to become the chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC).

During the launch event held at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Friday, November 8, Katongole expressed his delight at Raila.

Introducing himself to the audience, the MP for Kalungu East failed to contain his enthusiasm to get a chance to meet Raila in person, a person he has admired for a long time.

Katongole admitted that he had been inspired by Raila for years, despite never meeting him, associating relationship this and Raila's actions and legacy in Kenyan politics.

“I am very happy to be here today addressing and also supporting Baba. Baba has advised me without ever meeting me; that is by agency or by what I don't know. But with technology, you know, when you do good deeds people will always look at your presence and today I think I will have a chance to give him hand and I think I may not wash my hands for a long time,” he said, referring to Raila by his popular nickname.

Why is Katongole supporting Raila?

Reflecting on Raila's political resilience, Katongole commended the former prime minister's commitment to his country, especially his decision to work with political opponents for the firmness of Kenya.

“I remember very much the time when Kenya was in turmoil. He stood to lose many times in a confusing way but later he conceded, you know. That means he is a man of the states. Because the states are looking at the next generation, He is only a politician looking at the next election,” he explained.

Katongole, a member of the opposition party Uganda National Unity Platform (NUP), saw that Raila's leadership crossed political boundaries.

“I support Bobi Wine, but when it comes to Baba, if my president (President Yoweri Museveni) supports him, we agree on principles. God bless this campaign,” he said.

Kuria was happy to meet and greet Raila

Similarly, the government's chief adviser Moses Kuria was overjoyed after meeting Raila Mombasa.

Kenyans on X appreciated the willingness of the politicians to greet each other, despite Kuria's political stance with Raila which has put the two at loggerheads for a long time.

Apollo Arunga called on the Kuria to consider taking notes from Raila's forgiving spirit and great heart for everyone.
