A Kenyan mother has shared disturbing CCTV footage of the moment her housekeeper allegedly tried to set her house on fire.

Gracie Shiroh told how she was shocked after her three-month-old housekeeper turned on the heater in the children's room and pushed it near the curtains, in what appeared to be an attempt to set the house on fire.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Shiroh said he was chatting with his friend when his girlfriend rushed to them and claimed that her six-year-old son had turned on the heater and moved it near the curtain so that it would burn.

“I was shocked to hear that because my son is calm. The girl at work didn't even give me a chance to ask my son what happened. She kept insisting that my son was the one who almost caused the fire. My friend asked her to be quiet so that we could talk to the child and understand what happened,” he remembered.

The mother decided to go upstairs with her son to question him about what had happened, and realized that the curtain was badly burned by the heater.

Shiroh, a businessman, said the situation would have been worse if his daughters who were upstairs smelled something burning and rushed to the boy's room.

CCTV Shows The Strange Action Of An Employee

The mother decided to talk to her son to understand what happened:

“My son calmly told that it was his auntie (housekeeper) who turned on the heater and pushed it near the curtains. Since there were two conflicting stories, I decided to check the CCTV cameras at home, which are also connected to my phone,” he said.

CCTV showed how the maid turned off the heater and waited for the child to leave the room. He was seen on video pushing it close to the curtains on purpose so it would burn.

The woman's daughter was seen entering the room after smelling something burning, and the maid pretended to be surprised that the heater was on during the day.

He was seen talking to the girl before turning it off.

“After watching the CCTV, I showed him and asked him why he was lying, and everything was seen on the CCTV. He remained completely silent. My friend called the police immediately, and he fell to the ground on his knees, begging for forgiveness,” he said.

“I tried to ask him why he wanted to burn the curtain and the heater, but he did not give clear answers. He was taken to the police station for further questioning,” he said.

Warning Signs

Shiroh admits that this incident has taught him an important lesson not to ignore warning signs as they accumulate into a major incident.

“From the first day she came in, she was breaking and destroying things in my house, but I used to ignore such mistakes. I was very determined to keep her as a working girl so I ignored some of her mistakes. That is something I will not do again. ,” he said.
