When did Sarah Kemunto die?
The girl died shortly after completing her Kenya Primary School examination Education Assessment (KPSEA).
He had gone swimming with his cousins in the Nyando River on Friday, November 1, when he met his fate.
Sarah's heartbroken mother, Constance Kemunto, recalled her last conversation with the 12-year-old primary school girl.
“When it came to seven in the afternoon. I was not worried when he told me that he would like to play with his cousins after finishing his homework. He went to his aunt. After a few hours, I later heard that he had drowned. He was an obedient child who would do anything,” he said bitterly.
Sarah's father remembers the last conversation with his daughter.
Daniel Maeba, Sarah's father, said his daughter was happy after completing the KPSEA exam.
He remembered Sarah promising him that he would strive and work hard so that he would not disappoint him or his mother.
“He asked to visit his cousins after he finished the exam. He told me he had finished all his homework, which was true, so I let him,” he said.
Sarah's cousin, Lavender Gesare, said they warned their cousin against going swimming, but she begged them to join her.
Where was Sarah's body found?
The deceased had promised that it would not take long and persuaded them to join him in the great waters.
When they reached the river, Sarah dove into the water first and quickly emerged, giving her cousin a prayer rosary for fear that it might be washed away.
However, his second attempt was a disaster as he drowned and disappeared completely in the water.
Her body was found three kilometers down the river, ending the hopes and dreams of Sarah's parents to see their daughter.
