Nyanza Regional Police Commander Patrick Tito reported that the suspect was traced to a hotel near Kisumu Polytechnicwhere he had entered after escaping from Gem in Siaya County.

“After the confrontation, the suspect tried to shoot at our officers, forcing them to respond with force. This was a dangerous criminal on the run, and our team took action to ensure public safety,” Commander Tito said

During the operation, the police found a pistol, which is suspected to be linked to other crimes in the area.

Tito emphasized that this operation is part of a wider plan to deal with the increase in crime in Kisumu.

“We aim to restore peace and security. Criminals cannot roam freely, threatening innocent lives. We will continue to pursue any suspects until justice is served,” he added.

The incident highlights the police's urgent efforts to control violent crime in Kisumu, where recent incidents have sparked public concern.

Investigations are ongoing, as authorities work to dismantle criminal networks that may have contributed to Ayieko's murder and other related cases.

Earlier, DCI operatives arrested the first suspect, Victor Okoth, on Monday, October 28, in Dandora Phase IV area, Nairobi.

Okoth allegedly withdrew over KSh 100,000 from Ayieko's mobile phone account, using the money to rent a house and buy household goods.

On Wednesday, October 30, Okoth was arraigned in the Court of Law Siaya.
