- The appointment of Kithure Kindiki as the new deputy president, replacing the deposed Rigathi Gachagua, has not been embraced by a large percentage of Kenyans.
- Those who oppose his appointment cite police brutality against anti-government protesters while the Ministry of Interior remains silent on the brutality.
- The small percentage who support Kindiki's nomination defends that he has fulfilled his expectations, for example, by dealing with the threat of banditry in the northern region of the Rift Valley, thus suggesting that he is good enough to be President William Ruto's deputy
Outgoing Minister of Internal Affairs, Kithure Kindiki is looking to take over the post of deputy president if the court upholds the decision of the National Assembly to remove him from power Rigathi Gachaguawho has been President William Ruto's deputy.
Gachagua filed a case in the High Court to oppose the move to remove him from power and also to block the process of swearing in Kindiki as the new deputy president.
TUKO.co.ke held a poll to get the general opinion of Kenyans about Kindiki's ability to carry out his new duties.
Although it was not scientifically proven, the verdict was that many Kenyans did not show faith in the former senator's suitability Tharaka Nithi despite being a lawyer and an excellent law professor.
In the opinion poll on X, 62.9% of the respondents felt that Kindiki is not the best to replace Gachagua, against 26.5% who believed him; 10.6% were undecided.
On Facebook, more than 75% of respondents oppose the appointment of Kindiki as the new vice president.
Why the appointment of Kindiki as DP has not excited Kenyans
Many of those who criticized Kindiki's appointment pointed to his tenure in the Ministry of Internal Security, which they claimed had been soft on the killings of anti-government protesters in 2023 and 2024.
Those who opposed his elevation to the post argued that the deaths of Kenyans on the road allegedly carried out by the police left a bad image on Kindiki's name, thus opposing his suitability to be the new vice president.

Others mentioned alleged flaws in the process of prosecuting Gachagua. They said that the process was unfair and that Gachagua was not given time to defend himself against the charges of firing him before the exercise of public participation at the grassroots level.
On the other hand, the section was impressed by Kindiki's behavior and general conduct and said that he would be elected as a better vice president compared to Gachagua.
According to them, the appointed DP seems to maintain credibility, unlike his latest successor, who is considered to be loud.
