The newspaper reported on the mysterious death of Joshua Muthoka, an employee of Bata Kenya, on Saturday, October 26.

Bata Kenya is a manufacturer and retailer of footwear, clothing and fashion accessories in Limuru, county Kiambu.

Friends and co-workers revealed that the shoemaker complained of “chest pains” the day before and sought a day off on Saturday, October 26, as he was in severe pain, but was denied.

Muthoka, aged 49, arrived at work but continued to complain of severe headache and chest pain.

According to his colleagues, when the pain worsened, Muthoka crawled to an outdoor health center in Bata Kenya, but there was no one to attend to him.

They said the 49-year-old man finally died and was taken to the Tigoni Level IV Hospital mortuary.

Bata Kenya yesterday refused to discuss the death of Muthoka and the claims of close family members that the deceased died due to negligence.

''We are not aware of the matter and we are not ready to comment on the matter because we have not even seen the autopsy report,'' Bata Kenya said.
