- Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa said that the only important leaders in the country include MCAs, governors and senators
- He argued that the duties of Members of Parliament such as vetting presidential appointees can be done by the Senate
- According to Karungo, anyone can be president regardless of their academic qualifications and leadership skills
Senator of KiambuKarungo Thang'wa, has called for the removal of positions held by Members of Parliament citing their lack of importance in political leadership.
He says that the only important leaders are ward representatives, who serve as local representatives and remain connected to their constituents as well as governors and senators.
Why are the positions of parliamentarians not important?
In his remarks, Thang'wa stressed that the responsibilities currently held by members of parliament, such as vetting presidential appointees and impeachment processes, can be better managed by senators.
“From MCA the next important one is the governor because he is the one who lives with you. Another important person is the senator because they pass national laws based on the counties. We don't need MPs because they can do what the Senate does. MPs are making a lot of noise in the National Assembly,” he said.
He expressed his concern that immediately after being elected, many MPs tend to move Nairobiseparating themselves from the people they chose.
Thang'wa further commented on the election process, saying that almost anyone can be elected president, regardless of their profession or leadership skills.
“You can even be crazy as president and the country will continue because we have systems, procedures and laws,” he claimed.
