Mary Akatsa, who declared herself to be a prophetess and the founder of the Jerusalem Church of Christ in Gatina, Kawangwarehas passed away.

Information from the church indicated that the female pastor died while receiving treatment at a hospital in the country.

When did Mary Akatsa become a preacher?

The exact cause of his death is still unknown, but more details will be shared once the results of the autopsy are available.

He was hailed as a ruthless leader who set himself apart from many mainstream religious leaders because he followed the Bible word for word, without embellishing it.

She was born Mary Sinaida Akatsa in Ebusiralo, Luanda, Vihigaand this preacher got the name Sister Mary from her mysterious miracles.

He founded the Jerusalem Church of Christ in the late 1980s while still operating as a lodge and built it from the ground up.

“Sinaida will be remembered for the many lives he touched and his dedication to helping the poor and sick,” said part of the statement.

Why did Mary Akatsa seem controversial?

Akatsa was known for his merciless attitude, where he gained fame by slapping worshipers who arrived late to his services.

He would order others to pay fines, kneel down, and in worst cases, excommunicate them.

His strict discipline and unorthodox methods often attracted criticism and media attention.

“Your light will continue to shine in the lives of those you touched. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten,” the church mourned him.

Akatsa brought 'Jesus' to the church

The preacher became known in 1988 after an incident involving an Asian man.

On June 11, Aksatsa stopped worship and informed his followers that a special guest had visited them.

Shortly after, a man of Asian descent dressed in white arrived, and his followers began to call him Jesus.

The man was later known and mentioned as a preacher on a missionary trip, and the visit caused Akatsa to be criticized from all sides. Akatsa finally spoke about the visit in January 2022, claiming it was rumours.

“Don't follow what people say. Even if you marry a good wife, people will talk.”
