Religious leaders from various churches in the county Kiambu have raised concerns about threats allegedly made by government officials.
The preachers claimed that government interference has turned their places of worship into a field of fear.
During the press conference, the pastors expressed their regret about the unknown people who attend church services and refused to reveal their identity.
“Even they come and sit in the back, we don't know these people, and if we ask them to say their names they don't answer, later they come out and start asking the believers, “Why did you call them (these visitors to the church)?” complained one priest.
The preachers claimed that such actions are part of a disturbing new trend where chiefs and political leaders closely monitor the activities of the church.
They claimed that parliamentarians should investigate what the pastors preach and the guests who attend their services.
“We are saying that you find that the chief gets the opportunity to find out what the church has been teaching, and you being the member of parliament of the area and people have come, you call to find out what a certain pastor said and why. some people came to the church. This seems to indicate that the doors of the church are closed by the government and they decide who should come to the church.”
The preachers expressed growing concern claiming that the police have been sent to investigate the preaching work, seeing it as an attempt to suppress their ministry.
What do Kiambu priests regret?
The pastors admitted that they regretted their decision to endorse the President William Ruto in the 2022 General Election.
The servants of God questioned whether their support caused the harm, saying that they supported him because he was a believer.
“We say we regret this because we wonder why we didn't think that after doing what we did (approving William Ruto for the presidency), there would be consequences, and we will be followed as if we had committed a sin. We knew we put the president there because he is also a servant of God,” they complained. .
