Homa Bay – Mother Betty Ida Odinga, Raila Odinga's wife, was awarded the honorary title of leader by the Anglican Church in Nyanza South Diocese, Homa Bay.
A special dedication ceremony was held at Christ the Healer Cathedral on Sunday, October 20.
Why was Mama Ida awarded the rank of canon?
Governor of Mombasa Abdulswamad Nassir congratulated Mama Ida, praising her for being well recognized due to her commitment to service, leadership and faith.
“Congratulations to Dr. Ida Betty Odinga for being appointed bishop as an Honorary Canon of the Church of England Kenya! This is a fitting recognition of your commitment to service, leadership and faith. Continue to encourage and uplift many in this. New blessings in this wonderful journey! said the governor.
Governor of Fever Bay Gladys Wanga, who also attended the event, celebrated her as “the newest canon in town” and offered her sincere congratulations.
What did Kenyans say about the coronation of Mama Ida?
Simeon Ajwang asked: “Mother Ida Odinga He is from the Diocese of Bondo under Bishop Prof David Godia. What? How is the ordination ceremony held in Homa Bay in South Nyanza province under Bishop Simon Onyango?”
Lilian Wanjala said: “Lay canons are given to people who stand up for God's work from their own pockets and are good at motivating. Congratulations.”
Martin Thuo replied: “Are you sure all the rules were followed in this ordination? I'm just wondering innocently. I believe it's a journey to get to that point.”
Antony Ngugi observed: “A canon is the highest honorary title given to people who have done something great for the diocese or made a great commitment to the church.”
William Ruto is awarded a doctorate
In a separate statement, the University of Baraton awarded President William Ruto an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in Leadership.
The President commended the college for its pioneering mission to provide knowledge and skills while maintaining its strong Christian values, which are evident in all aspects of life in the institution.
Furthermore, he announced a grant of KSh 60 million from his government to develop additional facilities in the college.
