Kwale – President William Ruto has arrived in Kwale for the 61st Heroes' Day celebrations at the Kwale sports ground, where he was received by the deputy president-elect Kithur Kindiki.
The event will honor the heroes and heroines who fought for the freedom of Kenya.
Kindiki's presence comes shortly after he was appointed as the next deputy president, following the dismissal of Rigathi Gachagua, who was removed from office for alleged serious violations of the constitution and abuse of office.
This year's Veterans Day has the theme of Affordable Housing, an important project of the administration Kenya First.
The celebrations will highlight the progress of the housing construction program, which has been the mainstay of the President's government Ruto. The event is expected to attract a large number of leaders and celebrities.
Meanwhile, Kenyans await President William Ruto's speech during the 61st Heroes' Day celebrations, while the political situation remains volatile following the dismissal of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Why was Rigathi Gachagua removed?
Gachagua was dismissed after the Senate vote at midnight where 56 senators found him guilty of five charges.
In the first charge, he was accused of seriously violating many articles of the Constitution, including Article 10 (2) (A), (B), and (C); 27 (4); 73 (1) (A) and (2) (B); 75 (1) (C); and 129 (2). At least 54 Senators voted in favor of this charge.
The fourth point was about a serious violation of Article 160 (1), related to the independence of judges, with 51 Senators voting yes and 16 voting no.
In the fifth phase, regarding the violation of Article 3 (1) and 148 (5)(a) regarding loyalty to the Oath of Office, 49 Senators voted yes, while 16 voted no and two did not vote.
On the sixth charge—the main reasons to believe that Gachagua committed a crime under the National Harmony and Integration Act—48 senators voted in favor, 18 against him and one abstained.
The results have increased discussions about the political turmoil in the country as the people look to the President for guidance and comfort during the celebrations.
