On Friday, October 11, the local newspapers continued to follow up on the issue of the charges against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who now has a date with the Senate where his fate will be decided.
One of the newspapers showed how President William Ruto rejected the proposal to reconcile with Gachagua.
Daily Nation
The newspaper reported on President William Ruto's claim that he had no intention of returning relationship good and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
Daily Nation reported that several high-ranking religious leaders in the country managed to get a chance to speak with the president before Gachagua was impeached in the National Assembly.
According to the newspaper, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri, Anthony Muheria, and the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Jackson Ole Sapit, led reconciliation efforts between the two leaders, but all went in vain.
Ruto mentioned Gachagua's actions as the main reason for their conflict. The president accused his deputy of allegedly being harsh against the lawmakers who opposed him and also openly opposing the government's policies.
Also who appeared to try to resolve the two leaders was the Governor of PainMutahi Kahiga.
Having confirmed that the president met with religious leaders on Sunday, October 13, Kahiga said that the Kenyan Kwanza parliamentarians he intended to meet with to help him end the feud between Ruto and Gachagua did not show up.
“I can confirm that some bishops and even I personally tried to reconcile the two. I know the bishops met with the president in the White House,” Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga was quoted as saying.
Kahiga said that he arranged a meeting with the MPs who did not show up.
“They left me waiting at the hotel Nairobi but they did not appear,” said the governor. At the same time, some parliamentarians who sided with the president are against any reconciliation plans.
They said they would not accept being “thrown under the bus” again, as was the case with the 2024 Finance Bill, which Ruto refused to pass despite being passed in the National Assembly.
People Daily
