Abdalla Mwenda, aged 20, was buried after his family identified the body found in the house where he lived in the Mutuati market.
Mwenda was surprised that his family and villagers thought he had died without trying to find him. Some residents had doubts about the body and advised the family to conduct further investigations before burial.
The head of Nkamathi, Bernard Muroki, said Mwenda had not returned home for about three months before the body was discovered in the house where he lived with a woman, who disappeared after the body was found.
However, Mwenda explained that he had divorced the woman and moved to Nthambiro, about 20 kilometers away.
“As a miraa harvester, he moves from one place to another. I was surprised to hear that my family thought I was dead and buried me,” Mwenda said while still not believing.
