Nairobi – Efforts to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from power have taken a new turn following the decision of the High Court.
Monday, September 30, High Court Judge Luck Mwamuye refused to issue interim orders to prevent the submission of a motion to remove Gachagua from Parliament.
What instructions were Gachagua supporters looking for in court?
Supporters of Gachagua, led by the former general secretary of UDA Cleophas Malala, went to court seeking the court to prevent the presentation and discussion of the motion to remove him from power before the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
According to court documents viewed by TUKO.co.ke, Gachagua's supporters through lawyer Mwenda Njagi wanted the court to issue orders to prevent the presentation, discussion, consideration, or taking any action on the motion to remove him or impose sanctions against the Deputy President.
In a blow to Gachagua, Judge Mwamuye considered the matter to be urgent and ordered the client, Malala, to serve the National Assembly, the Senate, and other relevant parties before the end of business on September 30, 2024.
“The Plaintiff shall provide the Correspondence Room, Motion, and this Court Order to the Obligations and Parties concerned before the end of business activities today, 30/09/2024, and submit an Oath of Service regarding it before the end of the day 30/09/ 2024,” Mwamuye directed.
What did Kimani Ichung'wah say about removing Gachagua from power?
At the same time, the Member of Parliament Kikuyu Kimani Ichung'wah confirmed that he signed the motion to remove Gachagua from power.
The Member of Parliament claimed that Gachagua's pressure on the unity of Mount Kenya is fueling tribalism and weakening the government.
He also claimed plans to persuade Mount Kenya to leave Kenya First are being pushed by senior leaders like George Wajackoyah, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa.
What accusations does Rigathi Gachagua face?
As previously reported, those pushing to remove Gachagua from power have written eight reasons for concern against the DP.
The allegation that Gachagua shouted at the president in a meeting is part of the suspicion in the motion to remove him from power.
The Deputy President was accused of seeking compensation for every vote Ruto got in the Mlima area Kenya which he comes from in their 2022 presidential campaign.
