- The MP said one of the reasons for his removal from power was the deputy president's alleged involvement in an attempt to overthrow the government of President William Ruto
- On Thursday, September 26, a total of 242 MPs signed in support of ous Gachagua's motion
The process of dismissing the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was triggered after more than 240 members of parliament signed and supported the motion.
Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa, who sponsored the motion, claimed 280 MPs supported the motion.
However, the claims could not be confirmed immediately.
In an interview with journalists, Barasa said one of the reasons for Gachagua's dismissal was his alleged hand in the plot to overthrow the President's government William Ruto.
“When I came to sign the motion to indict him, I was number 242, and there was already a queue, which means we will have more than what we need to indict the deputy president. The motion begins by handing it over to the Speaker at the desk office, then he will go through the motion we are accusing him of as a deputy the president is not the deputy governor, he is a person who is rooted in very strong tribal beliefs, he is a person who participated in the coup attempt against the president, therefore, he is an insider.” Barasa said.
