Ethiopia – About 28 people have been confirmed to have lost their lives after a terrible accident involving a bus from Wolaita area.
What the police said about the Wolaita bus accident
The tragic incident happened in Wolaita, an area located about 400 kilometers (about 250 miles) south of the capital Addis Ababa.
Inspector Wolde Biliso, head of the Road Accident Prevention and Control Unit at the Wolaita Zone Police Department, said the accident occurred after a bus traveling from Wolaita Sodo City to Dauro zone lost direction and plunged into the river.
Biliso told the state-owned Fana Broadcasting Corporation that 28 people died on the spot while 19 others were injured.
“So far, 28 people have died in the accident and 19 others have been seriously injured,” Biliso said as reported by Fana Broadcasting Agency.
Authorities described the crash as fatal and indicated that the death toll could rise, given the number of seriously injured passengers.
