Faith Chepkoech was banned for three years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on September 24.

Why was Faith Chepkoech accused?

In a press release, AIU it cited the presence of a Prohibited Substance (EPO) collected from the 21-year-old athlete. The ban has been pushed back to September 6 while his July 26 results have been overturned.

Chepkoech provided a non-competitive urine sample in Iten, Elgeyo-Marakwet, in July. On September 4, a laboratory run by the World Anti-Doping Agency in Cologne, Germany, reported finding EPO in the sample.

Upon review, it was determined that the athlete did not have a known reason or Medical Use Exemption for the EPO found in his sample.

Why Chepkoech's ban is three years

Chepkoech was therefore found guilty of violating Sections 2.1 and 2.2 of the Anti-Doping Laws. The result of those actions is four years, but he was given a reduced sentence after accepting the sanctions in accordance with Rule 10.8.1 of the Rules for Preventing the Use of Narcotic Drugs mentioned above.

Who is Faith Chepkoech?

Chepkoech was born in May 2003 and specializes in running 5000 and 10,000 meters. His personal best in the 5000m race is 15:30.47. His last race was the Cape Elizabeth TD Beach to Beacon 10km road race, which he won.
