Cheers and cheers erupted as Gift Moi, grandson of the late president, Daniel Moi, returned Kenya after spending five months in India.
Why was Moi's grandson in India?
Gift, who is 14 years old, traveled to India with her mother, Faith Moi, for cancer treatment.
Gift, who was battling cancer, underwent surgery to remove a tumor after a charity fundraiser.
Faith told TUKO.co.ke that they are happy to return home after several months abroad. He also expressed his gratitude to God for seeing them through the treatment of his son.
“We have gone through very difficult treatment. The cancer he had was a rare tumor. So it has been a very intense treatment. We have been there for five months,” he said.
He confirmed that although the treatment took longer than expected, it was very successful.
“They were able to remove all the tumors as well as the disease. So the young man is healthy and we thank God very much,” he added.
He also thanked Kenyans who helped the family through financial support or words of encouragement.
His sincere thanks went to the Member of Parliament for Kapseret Oscar Sudiwho mobilized his friends and other politicians to help Moi's grandson.
“They are the ones who gathered led by the honorable Oscar Sudi and organized a fundraiser so that he could receive treatment. If he had not gathered his friends and his people to come and give us support, this conversation would not have taken place,” Faith added.
How did Sudi react to Gift coming home?
In a statement on his Facebook account, the Kapseret member of parliament expressed his happiness to see Gift returning to the country after receiving extensive cancer treatment.
“Like any other parent who would like to see their children in good health, I am happy to see Kalya Gift Moi returning to the country after extensive cancer care in India after Kenyans united to ensure that she gets treatment. Donation is mutual support,” Sudi's statement read.
How much was raised for Gift Moi's treatment?
Earlier, some leaders of the Rift Valley held a fundraising event to support the grandson of the late president, Daniel Arap Moi.
The fundraiser was held on Tuesday, April 23, and was hosted by Sudi.
The leaders, including Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui, raised KSh 6.15 million during the five-minute session.
During the charity, Sudi gave KSh 1 million, and CS Dating Murkomen and Governor Johnson Sakaja each gave KSh 500,000.
