Nandi – Riots erupted in the county assembly when members of the assembly clashed with fists following a violent dispute during the session on Tuesday, September 24.
The fight between the MCAs was recorded on video and widely circulated on social media, causing some members to flee the venue while others sustained minor injuries.
“Murder! Murder!” some MCAs screamed in the middle of the heated dispute.
Before the event, residents invaded the hall, wanting to see the speaker.
However, security officers stopped them at the gate, informing them that the speaker was not there, and used tear gas to disperse the angry crowd.
“Governor, if you are tired, go home. You have expelled the residents of the county but your brothers, including your mother, are getting a salary from the county government. We are not leaving the parliament here until morning,” one resident claimed.
What caused the violence between Nandi MCAs?
Senator Samson Cherargei commented on the situation, revealing that the motion to remove Governor Stephen Sang from power has been initiated.
Cherargei claimed that air workers were wrongly employed in the county government, blaming the governor for assigning them jobs.
He said that the workers, who were initially brought in as cleaners, had never done their work until a thorough investigation was initiated.
Cherargei insisted that the MCAs should continue with the process of removing the governor, expressing his readiness to support the motion.
“We have sent the Gen Z youth of Nandi to greet them in good faith about initiating a motion to remove him from power. I am ready. If it reaches the Senate, we will follow the path of Mwangaza,” he said.
Sang has also faced allegations of overspending on travel expenses.
