South Korea – Police have arrested a man linked to the murder of his girlfriend 16 years ago in the southern city of Geoje.
BBC reported that the man, who is now 50 years old, confessed to killing his girlfriend and burying her body on the balcony of his house.
According to the report filed at the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Station and the Geoje Police Station, the man beat the woman with a blunt instrument and then placed her body in a large suitcase.
The suspect told the police that he had been living with the woman for about five years in Geoje before they fell out in October 2008, causing her to beat him with a blunt instrument.
He then hid the body on his balcony, covering it with bricks and pouring 10 centimeters (four inches) of concrete.
Police say he continued to live in the home for eight more years, before being arrested on drug charges in 2016.
During a missing persons investigation in 2011, the man told the police that he had “broken up” with his girlfriend, so the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence.
Police say he continued to live in the apartment for eight more years, before being arrested on drug charges in 2016.
The body was found last month after an employee who was searching for leaking water found a travel bag.
After an inspection, police found the woman's body “partially preserved” but the woman was positively identified using fingerprints.
