Odero says that the Registrar of Social Organizations may close his church, which has more than 40,000 members and other affiliated churches, following the decision.

Odero claims that Justice Jairus Ngaah gave an unfair and inappropriate decision by not addressing the issues raised in the dispute.

He told the appeals court that the trial court dismissed his case despite the evidence presented to show that he was treated inconsistently with the principles of the administration of justice.

“That disposes of the matter; the respondents may proceed with the closure of the petitioner's organizations following the gazette cancellation of the registration of the Newlife Prayer Center and Jamii Church,” the court papers read in part.

Odero says that if the court does not intervene, his members and their children's right to education and worship will be affected if his church is deregistered.

“All these institutions and properties are at risk, if the deregistration of the community is implemented by the respondents herein, the right to education and freedom of worship for many children and citizens in the country will be adversely affected,” he submitted.

Pastor Ezekiel Odero wants the court to do what?

While waiting for his appeal to be heard and decided, Odero wants the court to issue an order to prevent the government from closing his church.

“Pending the hearing and decision of the appeal, this court is pleased to issue a restraining order to prevent the respondents themselves or their employees from interfering in any way with the activities of the applicant's ministry based on the Complained Gazette Announcement number 11016. dated 18 April 2024 submitting the decision of the second respondent to revoke the certificate of registration of the Newlife Prayer Center and the Church,” his petition states.

In April 2023, the Registrar of Societies revoked the registration of Newlife Prayer Center and the Church due to allegations of money laundering and activities related to worship.

The registrar wrote to Odero, instructing him to explain why his registration should not be canceled for failure to submit his annual reports.

The preacher, however, claimed that attempts to file the returns failed because their file was missing from the registrar's office.
