- COTU general secretary Francis Atwoli said the constitution should be amended to ensure that the deputy president remains appointed
- According to Atwoli, being a co-candidate made Rigathi Gachagua think he was co-president with William Ruto
- The long-time trade union activist said Gachagua should be arrested for publicly opposing the government's agenda
Nairobi – COTU General Secretary Francis Atwoli has criticized the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua about his alleged differences with President William Ruto.
Why does Francis Atwoli want the law to be changed?
Highlighting the ongoing debate over Gachagua's sacking on Monday, September 23, Atwoli called for a re-evaluation of the position within the government.
According to Atwoli, the position of deputy president should remain as the president's nominee instead of a running mate, as is the case now.

Why should Gachagua be arrested?
Atwoli suggested that Gachagua be arrested for publicly opposing the government's agenda Kenya First.
He said that if it was the time of KANU, the vice president would have already been arrested for opposing the president.
“He must be arrested. If it was our KANU government, we would have arrested him in the morning. You cannot oppose the policies of the government, oppose your president, oppose everything,” he said.
Atwoli argued that as it is, there is a concept of shared authority and some rights that the administrators feel are equal to the president, which he noted should not be the case.
“The deputy president has to play the fool. He has to be fair, not to be heard unless he is told he will be heard now. Which country cannot have two presidents at the same time?” he put
