Mombasa – The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has arrested two dangerous robbery suspects who are troubling residents in a surprise raid on Monday, September 16.
The suspects were chased to their hideout in the village of Utange, where the suspects believe they were planning another attack.
“Mohammed Ibrahim Shaban, 22 years old and Abdulaziz Ali Ogutu, 19 years old were chased to their hiding place in the village of Utange where they were planning their next attack,” it reported DCI.
According to the DCI, the youths were well-known in the area, often instilling fear in their victims as they rode motorcycles during their attacks.
Their reign of terror included a robbery on July 18, 2024, and a series of violent incidents across Majengo, Makupa, and Tononoka on September 14, 2024.
CCTV captures the suspects harassing the public
In the shocking video, the two were seen trying to rob a man sitting next to his car, using his phone.
Armed with swords, the gang arrived in a bodaboda and tried to intimidate the man, who appeared to remain calm despite the violence.
In a shocking move, the man defended himself, using a stick as a self-defense weapon, forcing the suspects to flee on their motorcycle.
The footage quickly spread on social media, fueling calls for justice, and prompting police action.
The DCI officers said they raided their hideout, and seized a variety of weapons and stolen items, including a sword, three knives, two mobile phones and the identity card of Yusuf Amani Yusuf.
