Nairobi – Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has called for the removal of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accusing him of undermining the government.
The MP accused Gachagua of undermining the President's administration William Rutodescribing him as a government saboteur who has moved from a respected promoter.
In a strong statement on Monday, September 16, Barasa claimed Gachagua has turned into a divisive person, failing to represent the nation's interests.
Barasa's statement comes amid growing tension within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), as internal divisions continue to flare up.
He observed that Gachagua's claim to be given priority to his community in other parts of the country has been reported to separate other parts from the national government.
“Kenya is made up of more than 42 tribes, and, in particular, not every tribe is regularly represented in the executive branch. Therefore, some communities have felt alienated from the government,” Barasa said.
Why was Gachagua removed from power?
Barasa did not hesitate as he directly aimed at Gachagua's leadership style, adding that his goal is mainly aimed at his community instead of the nation.
“Deputy President Gachagua considers his position as a representation of his community instead of Kenya whole, thus failing to realize the broad scope of his role,” Barasa added.
He pointed out that Gachagua's conduct had already led to his 'withdrawal' from office, and suggested that Gachagua be given the responsibilities of the Mathira region, his political arena.
The Member of Parliament said that Kenya needs to move beyond Gachagua's leadership and look for more inclusive alternatives.
“It is important for Kenya, as a nation, to find alternative leadership to ensure comprehensive representation in all regions. There are qualified leaders within Kenya who are suitable for that role. The conduct of Deputy President Gachagua has led to his resignation from office, and the nation needs to make progress beyond this. be taken into consideration regarding his removal from office and being assigned the responsibilities of the Mathira region,” the member of parliament announced.
How many MPs from Mount Kenya endorsed Kindiki?
About 35 MPs attended the meeting, while 13 MPs sent their apologies but agreed.
In a statement, the MPs said they had unanimously decided that the Minister of Interior would be their link with the national government.
The legislators further decided to form a coordinating committee to connect them with the executives.
They complained that their efforts to strengthen development were stalled in the past due to the lack of a reference center where the interests and priorities of the people can be directed to the government to be implemented.
