Migori – A plane carrying 11 passengers skidded off the runway at Lichota Airport in Migori on Monday, September 16.
The Z. Boskovic Air Charter Company confirmed that all 10 passengers and one crew member aboard the aircraft, registered as 5Y-ZBW, were not seriously injured.
“The plane was carrying 10 passengers and one crew member at the time of the incident. We are relieved to confirm that no deaths or injuries have been reported,” leadership confirmed.
What witnesses say about the plane crash
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.keMoses Ywera, a resident who witnessed the incident, reported that the plane had trouble during take off.
He looked at the plane on the runway, which had torn apart at the end and began to emit smoke as it tried to take off.
He described how the plane lost direction and made loud screeching noises from the wheels before coming to a stop at the end of the runway.
Ywera added that residents tried to help, but their efforts were thwarted as airport officials intervened.
“I was in my compound near the airport when I saw the plane trying to take off. We stopped to help when the smoke cleared and saw that everyone had got out safely, although they looked shaken,” he noted.
The incident happened around 12:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the company is cooperating with the authorities to investigate the incident. A fire engine and an ambulance from the Migori county government are currently on site.

Other news, four people, including students who were taking flying lessons, died after their plane crashed.
The student, his aviation technology instructor, his mother, and another person were the only occupants of the crashed plane.
The police explained that they were not aware of the accident until the family registered a complaint after their relatives failed to return home.
