- The former comedian wondered why they wanted to arrest him, when he had all the necessary permits to organize the meeting
Comedian turned political activist Eric Omondi has clashed with plainclothes police officers in Mombasa.
Why did the police want to arrest Eric Omondi?
Eric, who has been agitating for good governance and mobilizing young people to oppose the inaction of the government, took his campaigns to the coastal area.
The protest on Wednesday, September 11 in Tononoka Square was going on when the police approached Eric, apparently wanting to arrest him.
A soldier held Eric's hand as they walked and talked.
However, the young people who had gathered were upset about the action of the comedian.
The comedian stopped the young men from attacking the police, begging them to calm down.
The police left the area safely while Eric returned to address hundreds of young people.
“We have no bad intentions, we have participated in protests, we are peaceful and we are just talking, we have not thrown stones or burned anything.
“We have freedom of speech. When we protest, they kill us, and we come to speak, they want to arrest us. What do they want?” he asked himself as the crowd that had surrounded him responded.
Eric said he was being arrested for no reason while congratulating the young men for saving him.
“We had a warrant from the county and the police, and they still came here to arrest me, man.”
Kenyans had this to say about the incident:
majid_mike_ke:
“The power belongs to these young people. People power.”
shaffie_suleiman:
“Change is coming. We don't care when and how they come.”
im_nidel:
“Another revolution is breaking out. They won't believe it.”
suzy_kenyan:
“Eric is our future president.”
