Hillside Endarasha School has hit the headlines in relation to the fire tragedy that caused the death of more than 20 students.
Who owns Hillside Endarasha Academy?
The private primary school was established 15 years ago in the county of Pain.
According to NTV Kenyathe school is owned by David Kinyua and his wife, Mary Wanjeri.
Kinyua and his family live near the institution.
Citizen TV reported that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) questioned Kinyua about the alleged electrical fault that started the fire.
How many schools does Kenya have?
According to the National Bureau of Statistics Kenyathe total number of schools increased by 4.9% to 93,988 in 2023 from 89,615 in 2022.
During the period under review, enrollment in pre-primary schools increased by 2% to 2.88 million.
Enrollment for boys and girls increased by 1.2 and 2.7% respectively.
However, primary school enrollment declined slightly from 10.36 million to 10.24 million in 2023.
How many unknown Endarasha students are there?
The nation was left in shock and confusion as more than 40 children were still missing for several days after the massive fire at Hillside Endarasha School.
The fire that broke out on Thursday, September 5, cost the lives of 21 of the 156 students who were in the dormitory that night.
The information shows that the fire started around 11 pm and quickly consumed the dormitory.
Despite the efforts of residents and firefighters, many children are still missing, leaving the community in a state of agony.
Since the tragic incident, parents have been gathering outside the school, anxiously waiting for news of their children.
What to know about the Endarasha fire tragedy
The dormitory that burned contained 156 boys, all of whom were boarders; the school has a total of 824 enrolled students, and 316 boarding students.
A prayer service was held on September 8 to honor the students who died in the tragic incident.
President William Ruto announced a three-day period of mourning from September 9 to September 11 to honor the students who died in the fire.
