In his statement on Wednesday, September 11, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna confirmed that the party's Central Committee has decided to allow Raila to fully commit to his bid for the AUC chairmanship.
The veteran politician will rely on the county leader to manage the affairs of the party in his absence.
“Considering the difficult campaign schedule of our Party Leader and the need for him to focus on this, he has appointed HE Peter Anyang Nyongo, Governor Poisonousto be the Chairman of any meetings of the Central Committee that may be necessary during the sessions. his absence,” Sifuna said.

Invitations to any meetings of any Party bodies that are not from the National Secretariat should be ignored from now on,” Sifuna added.
Sifuna explained that, as a party established on the basis of multi-party democracy and the participation of the people, all its affairs are conducted transparently, and it always informs the people about discussions and resolutions.
Why is Raila distancing himself from local politics?
Previously, Raila announced that he is taking a break from domestic politics to focus on his campaign for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission.
The former prime minister said his transition towards continental politics, with the AUC elections scheduled for February 2025.
