The family of former presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida has spoken about his seven-year prison sentence in the country United States.

Why was Abduba Dida imprisoned?
Dida, a former teacher turned businessman, is serving his sentence at the Big Muddy River Correctional Center in Illinois, where he has been imprisoned since 2022.
He was jailed in July 2021 for stalking and threatening his wife, Shannon, with whom he has a child.
Reports indicate that Dida traveled to the United States in 2019 to further her studies when she met and married Shannon.
He later obtained a restraining order against Dida, and her family claimed that she unknowingly violated it.
“He went to the nearby mosque to pray, and to luck bad, it was in an area where he shouldn't have been because he also visited the mosque.”
His family of Nairobi called the sentence too harsh for a dispute between husband and wife.
“We are praying for him and trying to find a way to visit him, find another lawyer, and help him. As a family, there are limits to what we can do, and that's why we need government intervention.”
Dida's son said that he hopes his father will be released soon.
“We need our father to come home,” he said.
Dida is due to be released in April 2029, but will be eligible for parole in 2025.

In 2021, Dida warned of William Ruto's presidency.
Dida said Ruto was gathering many politicians within his group who would demand favors once he took power.
Dida claimed Ruto's political allies would be a threat to public funds.
